The concluding chapter summarizes the major points presented in the book. It also addresses more directly the depiction of biblical masculinity as it changes over time. It does so by comparing each of the case studies examined in chapters 3–5, and finding that of the seven, five reflect the views of manhood shared by most of the texts in the Hebrew Bible and detailed in Chapter 1 of this study. Two case studies, however, differ markedly in their understanding of how a boy comes of age, and therefore in their view of what makes a man.
