In spite of the normally low DA concentration in these regions, the marked DA increase after repeated stress suggests that there are functional changes in these nuclei. It is also interesting to mention that these two hypothalamic nuclei receive dopaminergic fibers from the A 11 region, which fact suggests that the incertohypothalamic tract may participate in the stress reaction. The most significant changes were found in the NDM where NE was found to be increased following the first IMO. NE levels increased even more significantly after repeated IMO, and was also associated with an increased DA concentration.
