EARLY FORMATIVE YEARS (1947À1963) Raquel was born in the third largest city of Peru, Trujillo, which is the capital of La Libertad region. Trujillo is a highly cultured and commercially active coastal city located in northwestern Peru some 500 km north of the capital city of Lima. Her father was Juan Diaz Silva (born 1917), from the Andean area of Cascas, and her mother was Maria Alejandrina Ramirez de Diaz (born 1914), from the small town of Huaral near Lima.
