Selbst wenn man zugunsten der Lehre des Aristoteles und Alberts diesen von ihnen erdachten ganz feinen Stoff als real annähme, wäre er nicht gleich einem Wellen'verband' oder einem Feld; die Ätherhypothese der Physiker des 19. Jahrhunderts mußte aufgegeben werden, und dieser vermutete Äther hätte dem Denken des Aristoteles und Alberts am ehesten entsprochen. Der heutige Erkenntnisstand der Physik und der physikalischen Astronomie als Grundlage einer jeden naturphilosophischen Spekulation ist sowohl von den Lehren des Demokrit, des Leukipp und des Xutos als auch von der Lehre des Aristoteles und Alberts mehr oder minder weit entfernt, steht aber den Ansichten der zuerst Genannten näher als der Auffassung der beiden letzten Philosophen.
