To take an example to which both Diogenes Laertius and Sextus Empiricus allude, we may observe a tower from a distance and on the basis of its appearing to be round form a preliminary judgment that it is so. As we move closer, we observe that, in fact, the tower is square, and our first judgment is invalidated.
