The plans for the original ship made by William Roué would be used, and the designer himself was consulted on the construction. On February 27, 1963, the keel was laid, and many of the original workmen who were still alive were back at work on the new ship. Angus Walters helped drive the symbolic golden spike at the start of the building process and was consulted at each stage. On July 24 of that year, the new ship was proudly launched before a crowd of fifteen thousand people. Angus Walters was on board at the age of eighty-two.
