The thirtieth Annual German convention on Arti?cial Intelligence (KI-2007) happened within the college of Osnabru ¨ck, September 10–13, 2007. during this quantity, you'll ?nd papers or abstracts of its six invited talks, 25 complete papers, and 21 posters. the entire papers have been chosen from eighty one submissions, leading to an recognition price of 32%. AsusualataKIconference, anentiredaywasreservedfortargetedworkshops – ten of them this 12 months – and tutorials. they don't seem to be coveredin this quantity, however the convention internet sitewww.ki2007.uos.de will hold delivering info and references to their contents. a few subject clusters are obvious within the total convention software, which re?ect contemporary traits in AI examine, convolved with foci of labor in Germany and Europe. Examples are studying and information mining, robotics and conception, wisdom illustration and reasoning, making plans and seek – them all together with a fit variety of techniques facing uncertainty, contradiction, and incompleteness of data. All in all, KI-2007 supplied a move element of glossy AI examine and alertness paintings. KI-2007 additionally constituted a “small anniversary,” being the thirtieth exemplar of its sort. The invited speak by means of Wolfgang Bibel (accompanied by way of a paper during this quantity) picked up on that get together by way of recalling what the ?eld of automatic deduction used to be like 30 and extra years in the past – usually, and in Germany. He additionally paid homage to Gerd Veenker, who organizedthe ?rst KI convention (which had a di?erent identify on the time) in 1975 and whose ?eld of analysis was once deduction.

3 Cognition in the Perception-Action Loop C OT E S YS investigates the cognition in technical systems in terms of the cognition-based perception-action closed loop. Figure 5(left) depicts the system architecture of a cognitive system with multi-sensor perception, cognition (learning, knowledge, action planning), and action. C OT E S YS research is dedicated to real-time performance of this control loop. On the higher level, key components comprise environment models, learning and knowledge management, all in real-time and tightly connected to physical action.

The sensors in the Assistive Kitchen are connected into distributed sensor networks (see Figure 8), which are enhanced with cognitive capabilities. To this end the sensors are wirelessly connected to small ubiquitous computing devices (like Gumstix) and to personal computers that perform state estimation and data-mining tasks. This way, activity data can be collected and abstracted into models in a distributed manner. Cognitive capabilities of the network include the estimation of meaningful states from sensor data, the continual acquisition, update, and use of activity models, and the estimation of context conditions that allow for the simplification of recognition tasks.
