The simulators are life sized mannequins developed to aid the education and assessment of medical students, doctors, and allied healthcare professionals. The clinical parameters change automatically according to preprogrammed clinical diagnoses. Each patient simulator is computer controlled and can be programmed to react in very human ways, with multiple combinations of physiologic responses. Medical devices can be attached to the simulators to train medical professionals in the proper implementation and use of certain medical equipment and drugs.
Our experience with Comorbid Patient Simulators (CPS) for health professional education will be presented along with a process to develop a simulated clinical experience that focuses on family medicine resident’s skill competence. Family medicine residents collaborated better with health care team members and they improved the quality and safety of their future practices. Almost three quarters of family medicine residents, 72 %, reported that teaching was realistic and 88 % gave the teaching an excellent overall rating.
After cutting all the adherences between the lens and the vitreous, the fragmenter was introduced and moved to the surface of the lens material. Linear suction was increased gradually, until the lens material was picked up and moved away from the retina. The sonification of the lens material was always performed in the mid-vitreous, to avoid any traction on the retina. Still, we had 2 cases of retinal detachment, 2 months after the removal of the lens. We believe that they were related to the trauma, rather than to the surgery itself.
